Plenty of Treats in October for Kids

Can you believe October is already upon us?  The good news; there are plenty of fun, free, fall events around the not-so-fall-like city of Orlando.

First up, Home Depot is offering the Kids Workshop this Saturday from 9 am to noon.  This month children will make a fire boat.  For more information (and a photo of what a fire boat is) visit the Home Depot website.

Also this Saturday from 10 am until 2 pm Michael’s is holding a “Duck Tape Costume Demo”.  They will be demonstrating how to make a costume out of Duck Tape.  There is also going to be a Duck Tape Costume Contest as well as many other fun events in October.  For information visit Michael’s website.

On Saturday, October 9th at 10 am Lowe’s will be holding its bi-monthly Build and Grow workshop.  This month kids will be building a fun house mirror.  On the 23rd they can build a flapping bat.  For more information visit Lowe’s Build and Grow website.

Nordstrom offers a special event every month.  We received this notice:

Nordstrom Florida Mall Orlando

Kids’ shoe-tying class

Join us for a fun complimentary session where your little one can learn to tie their shoes. Your child will be rewarded with a certificate and a special surprise, while supplies last.  Classes held monthly inquire for specific dates.  No purchase necessary, To RSVP or for details please call 407-888-7889 extension 1460

On October 8th and 9th in the town of Celebration the leaves will be falling.  You can catch the fun at 7, 8 and 9 pm.  This is also their 4th annual Oktoberfest and there will be live music both evenings.  There is a pumpkin patch and hayrides for the young and not so young to enjoy.  Parking and admission are free.  For more information visit the website.

The Village at Hunter’s Creek is hosting their 4th annul Autumnfest on Saturday, October 16th from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm.  A costume contest will be held at the main stage at 4 pm for children between the ages of 0 – 12 years.  There are cash prizes!  You can expect to find live entertainment, food, music, face painters, fortune tellers, bounce houses, crafts and Market vendors.  (pssst parents: there is also a beer garden).

Halloween is coming to the library!  On Saturday, October 30th at 1:00 pm South Creek Library is hosting Spooky Stories!  Come dressed in your Halloween costume and take part in trick-or-treating around the branch.  There will also be fun, Halloween-themed stories and creepy crafts.

Downtown Disney has a free trick-or-treating event on October 30th and the 31st.  The festivities are from 5 to 9 pm at around 11 different stores.  There is also music, magicians, story telling and general Disney-type fun.  Just a helpful hint as we have attended this event several times, show up right when it starts and you can enjoy all the activities and be ready to leave by the time the rest of the the crowds arrive!

So obviously October is a very busy time of year around Orlando!  There are certain to be many more activities that haven’t been mentioned here.  Feel free to use the comment section if you would like to share a fun event in October with the other parents.
